Doyon Foundation recently hosted this year’s North American Basketball Tournament. The event brought together teams, fans, and community members for an exciting celebration of basketball and culture. This annual tournament has been a long standing tradition for athletes across the region, providing a day filled with competition, sportsmanship, and connection.

This year’s tournament featured three divisions: Women’s 18+, Men’s 18+, and Men’s 35+, open to Alaska Native and American Indian players.

The winners were:

  • Women’s 18+ – Northern Lights
  • Men’s 18+ – Auntie’s Boys
  • Men’s 35+ – Tanana Tribe

With teams traveling from various communities, the tournament showcased impressive talent and unwavering dedication from the players. The atmosphere was electric as attendees cheered on their favorite teams, creating an unforgettable experience for all involved. The event served also as an opportunity to bring people together, strengthening community ties and celebrating a shared love for the game.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of sponsors, volunteers, and the Doyon Foundation staff. Their efforts ensured smooth operations throughout the tournament, from organizing logistics to creating a welcoming environment for players and fans alike. Their dedication played a key role in making the event a success.

“I am incredibly proud of the dedicated Doyon Foundation staff whose hard work made this event a success. Our volunteers, as well as our referees and coaches, were phenomenal. We couldn’t have done it without you.” said Katrina Erick, Doyon Foundation’s Deputy Director

More than just a basketball tournament, this event helps further the Doyon Foundation’s mission by directly supporting its scholarship, workforce development, and language revitalization programs. Every participant and supporter contributed to a greater cause—uplifting the next generation through education and opportunity.

We are grateful to everyone who attended and supported this year’s event, and we look forward to next year!
