Doyon, Limited is excited to announce the acquisition of Portage Glacier Cruises in partnership with Huna Totem Corporation (HTC) through their joint venture, Na-Dena’. This investment aligns with both organization’s commitment to sustainable tourism growth and economic development and ensures that future generations benefit from a thriving, culturally rich tourism industry.
Na-Dena`, a venture combining the strengths of Doyon, Limited, and Huna Totem Corporation, was founded to create meaningful tourism experiences that highlight Alaska’s cultural and natural heritage. The acquisition of Portage Glacier Cruises is a strategic expansion that complements the joint venture’s existing transportation, lodging, and tour operations investments.
Located just 10 miles from Whittier, Portage Glacier Cruises offers an unforgettable journey through the pristine waters of Portage Lake aboard the M/V Ptarmigan, a custom-designed vessel with a heated cabin and open-air top deck. The cruise brings visitors close to Portage Glacier, one of Alaska’s most iconic and accessible glacial landscapes. With interpretive narration from the U.S. Forest Service, guests experience the breathtaking scenery and gain a deeper understanding of the Chugach National Forest and Portage Valley.
This acquisition follows a series of successful tourism investments by Na-Dena`. Since its formation in 2022, the joint venture has expanded its tourism portfolio to include an 80% stake in Alaska Independent Coach Tours and the development of a new cultural tourism destination on Klawock Island in partnership with the local village corporation, Klawock Heenya.
“Doyon’s investments in tourism are not just about business growth; they are rooted in cultural preservation and education,” said Jordan Sanford, President of Doyon Tourism, Inc. “By integrating Alaska Native perspectives into tourism experiences, Na-Dena` ensures that visitors gain a deeper understanding of the rich traditions and histories of Indigenous communities, resulting in a more meaningful and impactful experience.”
As tourism continues to grow in Alaska, Doyon, Limited remains committed to advancing initiatives that align with its mission to enhance its position as a financially strong Native corporation, promote the economic and social well-being of shareholders, and protect and enhance our land and resources. The Portage Glacier Cruises acquisition is another step in that journey and reinforces the company’s role as a Leader In All We Do.
